Los Angeles travel guide

Los Angeles, always associated with movie stars and the film industry, is a fascinating city with many facets. There isn’t an actual central area but it is made of 88 districts, which are independent and at the same time mixed together where the many contrasts of LA coexist. City of the rich and the poor, over 11% of the population lives in poverty, Los Angeles has an ethnic mix that is reflected in the varied expressions of art, music, film, entertainment and food. Los Angeles County covers a surface of 4000 square miles, which is divided into 5 distinct regions: Downtown, Hollywood, Westside, the Valley and the beaches. Apart from the tall buildings of Downtown, which are the working place rather than the living space, LA is spread out horizontally rather than vertically resembling unending suburbs where the quality of life transpires from the wooden houses surrounded by beautiful gardens. In less than a century this city has reached incredible dimensions and has become the starting point of a culture exported worldwide from the dreams factory which is Hollywood to lifestyles adopted the world over such as roller-skates, body-building, jogging and much more.
The most fun place to stay is Santa Barbara because it is close to the sea and is ideal to move about by bicycle or roller skates as traffic is less intense compared to the rest of the city.
Los Angeles is a city full of attractions with over 300 museums and plenty of sites not to be missed such as Universal Studios, Warner Brothers Studios, Rodeo Drive, Melrose Avenue, Hollywood Walk of Fame and Chinatown. Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Disneyland are all a must.
