Sacramento things to see

When visiting Sacramento take time to visit the Capitol area, stroll down 7th and 16th streets to admire the elaborate Victorian houses and the Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park. The fortress in the middle is a museum dedicated to Sutter’s life, Sacramento’s history and the gold rush.  Next to the fortress is the State Indian Museum exhibiting important pieces of Indian history, handicrafts and everyday life reconstruction of the American Indians. The most characteristic place in the city is Old Sacramento on the riverbank depicting the city at the time of the Far West with the addition of souvenir shops. It is like stepping back in time to the Californian gold rush period: historic buildings, museums and monuments. Everything has been kept as it was including the wooden sidewalks, horse-drawn carriages and the Mississippi-style riverboats. Scenic river cruises on a Victorian-style paddleboat are organized daily; some offer overnight service and dinner.

The city of Sacramento has more than 120 parks. The most popular is William Land Park, site of the Sacramento Zoo. Just outside town is the American River Parkway, a county park that offers riverside trails for bicycling, walking, and jogging, and ample opportunities for fishing and rafting. One of Sacramento greatest adventures is the 32-mile long American River Parkway, the 1st and one of the few riverside habitat preservations within a major city centre which includes 20 recreation areas offering a wide selection of activities such as fishing, rafting, kayaking and hiking.
Finally the ARCO Arena II is the home of the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association, as well as roller hockey and indoor soccer teams.
